Changes to company registers

Every company must hold and maintain statutory registers of information.

From 18 November 2025, there will no longer be a requirement for companies to hold registers of:

  • directors
  • directors’ residential addresses
  • secretaries
  • people with significant control (PSCs)

You’ll still have to register this information with Companies House and keep it up to date.

You will no longer need to provide a business occupation for company directors (or equivalent) when you register their appointment with Companies House.

Removal of central register

From 18 November 2025, companies will no longer be able to elect to hold information about the company’s officers on the central register.

Requirement for register of shareholders (members)

By law, companies will still have to hold a register of shareholders (members) either at the company’s registered office address, or single alternative inspection location (SAIL).

If your company previously held its register of members at Companies House, you will need to:

  1. Create and maintain a register of members.
  2. Hold the register of members at your registered office address or SAIL address.
  3. Contain a statement in the register that before this change, the information about the company’s members was held on the ‘central register’.
  4. Make this register available for the public to view.
